The internet is a huge, cavernous place filled with amazing free things. Here’s a list of all the places you can get things that you might usually pay for for free online, without the fear of the feds busting your door down for piracy.
Project Gutenberg hosts almost all books that have gone past their copyright in PDF or HTML format, allowing you to read almost any classic that you want for free instead of buying it from the shops or getting a library card. This can be really good for finding specific bits of books, using the Control+F keys to get to the section you want, or for copying bits of the book down to keep for later reading.
There are also loads of free to play websites for flash games or RPGs. Runescape is a popular roleplaying game that doesn’t require purchasing items to level up, but if fantasy epics aren’t your style then the popular afterschool haunts of Friv and Miniclip are still functioning for you to while away your time beating up giant spiders or serving coffee in a cafe. Almost all the free to play games that you might remember from the early 2000s are still running, like Neopets, Howrse, and Toon Town, so why not spend a day reliving your childhood afternoons online?
Additionally, many TV shows that are past their point in popularity get uploaded to YouTube, often by the show’s official channel. Whole episodes of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Totally Spies, and even Hell’s Kitchen are floating around the site in handy playlists made by the show’s creators. It’s a great way to watch some of your favourite shows that are no longer airing for free!
