Game, Set, Match

After twenty one long years of avoiding it, I’ve managed to slip down the rabbit hole of accidentally becoming a gamer girl. I got Stardew Valley as a present, and in the last few days have become absolutely obsessed with crop rotation, foraging for dandelions, and Jethro Tull’s seed drill. It’s been a really great way of keeping me at home and away from silly impulse purchases, not to mention the cute graphics and adorable music do absolute bits for my serotonin levels. After my newfound success at Stardew, I decided to go hunting for more free games to play, either on a browser or on the free-to-purchase platform, Steam.

The absolute classic, cornerstone, and behemoth of the free gaming community has to be Runescape. With its boppy soundtrack that has been firmly cemented into Gen-Z’s collective consciousness, its shaky cuboid graphics, and frankly delightful fishing minigames, Runescape has managed to stand the test of time. You can buy items to level up in the game faster, but there’s no need to, as I personally find the chopping of wood and slow harvesting of fruit soothing. If you’re more into action, there are also quests where you can fight demons, defeat brigands, and save the world millions of times over. Easily one of the best games for anyone, whether they’re interested in the adventuring or the cottage-core skillsmaxing.

Fortnite is no longer the new kid on the block, but its PUBG-style gaming and online multiplayer capability will keep it relevant for years to come. It’s great to play with the whole family, as everyone can join in on their own device be it iPhone, Android, PC or Switch, as long as they have an internet connection. The Battle Royale is what they’re most famous for, where you can duke it out alongside the rest of your friends to be the last man standing, and once you are you get to do one of those funky Fortnite dances all the kids are talking about these days. Am I cool yet?

Or, if you’re like me and you’re desperate to hop on to the Animal Crossing: New Horizons bandwagon but can’t shell out the money for a Switch and the game, why not try their free mobile game? Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp has all of the fun of making friends, meeting the villagers, and harvesting fruit of New Horizons, except without the terrible $300 guilt you feel after realising it’s not for you. Plus, the fishing minigame is a lot more fun in Pocket Camp. Maybe use it as a tester for whether or not you should put New Horizons on your Christmas list?

Hopefully, one of these games will keep you stuck inside this weekend. Whether you’re paying off your debt to raccoon loanshark Tom Nook, dropping in to Tilted Towers, or teleporting off to Lumbridge, I hope you have a great weekend. Does anyone know how much ore I need for a chicken coop?

  1. Thanks a lot for the helpful post. It is also my opinion that mesothelioma cancer has an really long latency interval, which means that the signs of the disease would possibly not emerge till 30 to 50 years after the primary exposure to asbestos fiber. Pleural mesothelioma, that is the most common sort and has an effect on the area around the lungs, will cause shortness of breath, upper body pains, plus a persistent coughing, which may lead to coughing up maintain.

  2. Hey just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The words in your content seem to be running off the screen in Safari. I’m not sure if this is a formatting issue or something to do with web browser compatibility but I thought I’d post to let you know. The layout look great though! Hope you get the issue solved soon. Thanks
