Happy Camping

This weekend, why not have a campout? Either in your living room or in your garden, or at a real-life campsite if you’re feeling fancy, it’s always a great way to have fun and just decompress away from the struggles of real life.

If you’re camping outside, we’d really recommend that you get a tent to keep you dry, and to keep the creepy crawlies away from you while you sleep. If you’ve not got a tent, don’t worry, because that sets you up for what is, in my opinion, the best form of camping: the pillow fort.

A structurally sound pillow fort needs at least two chairs, one at either end, and a blanket draped over the top. Feel free to decorate the inside with anything from fairy lights to, well, pillows, to make sure you’re nice and cosy. All you want to do is create a separation between you and your usual room, just so you can feel like you’re getting away for a moment.

Obviously, the best thing to eat while you’re in your tent/fort is marshmallows! You can always buy these in a bag from any cheap retailer, but if you’re feeling adventurous you could always make your own. Here’s a vegan and a nonvegan recipe for all of your campfire needs. If you’re inside and can’t toast these marshmallows anywhere, I’ve found that holding them over a gas stove works, too, just so long as you remember to clean it afterward! If you don’t have a gas stove, putting them on a baking sheet and putting them under the grill (flipping halfway!) Works just as well.

Finally, when you’re munching on your marshmallows and all bundled up, there’s nothing better to help you to forget your anxieties of the day than absolutely terrifying you with scary stories at night. I really like this video, which, while Christmas themed, doubles up really well as a campfire. Happy camping!
